Flame on!
I also just realized who the cocky Johnny Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie reminds me of: Doug-doug the cycle stud.
Internet fun!
So, we can now post pictures to our blog directly! I thought I'd share that picture of Vin 'family' Diesel and the every darling Bel-ami star Sebastian Bonnet. I have to say that's easier than doing the whole link biz I was doing before. And you can even do it if you have a... MAC! Will wonders never cease? Apparently not! Because I finally got around to calling Verizon Online to switch my DSL service from monthly (at $42.00) to a year long commitment (at $29.00), saving me over $150. But wait, there is more! They gave me the $19.00 a month price for the first 3 months they give people with new accounts AND they say with a year commitment they double the speed! (3k down/750 up).
And there weren't even any annoying voice recognition prompts on the phone, and I got a customer service rep right away.
Of course I'll probably get home and find my service cut off or something...

My Dilemma
I was vexed to read the review in today's for War of the Worlds -- not because it was a bad revew, but because it was a glowing one. I like Steven Spielberg, and the story of WotW is an immortal one. But I hate, hate, hate that homophobic, bunk-spouting, psychiatry-bashing, Mission:Impossible character-ruining (Jim Phelps would never betray his country!) Tom Cruise. Did I mention that I hate him?
So, what to do? I don't want to break my boycott, but I want to see this movie. Or maybe I should just wait for Fantastic Four. Flame on!

Better Now
Thanks for your comments about my breakdown Sunday; I don't even really blame V.; he's not intentionally mean (and sometimes he can be quite nice) but that's just the way he is.
Moving on! I just went to some required instructor meeting, and guess who showed up? Vulcan boy! He really is a doll, and was much nicer to me that previously when he seemed a little cool. In fact he plopped himself down right next to me on one of these body wedges and kept squirming around. At one point he was lying on it on his stomach with his cute little ass sticking up in the air (he was wearing these flimsy fleece shorts). He made the meeting bearable, though my mind did wander at times from the lecture about not being late for class (this after several emails about not being late for class? Who is late for class? I'll tell you: Doug the cycle Stud. And they will never, ever fire him).
Anyway, Vulcan Boy and I actually chatted some. He's trying to get into U.Va Law school, and he saw my U.Va. shirt and half-jokingly asked if I could get him in. If only there were a way... Sadly his kickboxing class has been cancelled because of lack of participation, which sucks because now I don't see him every week, and now it will be harder to find a sub for my Saturday class. Damn. I'm still not 100% sure he plays for my team, but as Enviroboi points out, he is in some Orchid Society, and the Washington Choral Arts Society. Two strikes right there.
He's too young though anyway, and he might be moving back to Charlottesville for Law School (oh I could move back with him! Live happily ever after!).
I need to be slapped, my fantasies are completely out of control.

Stupid
It's amazing.
After 46 years, and with a 147 IQ (by some assessments) I can still be so stupid, so naive. I went to see someone tonight, an old friend/ex 'buddy' from ten or more years ago, who I have sort of broken up with at least twice, yet still am... attracted to. The attraction I have yet to figure; we never really dated. He is handsome, Filipino (and probably reading this) smart, a tech geek like me. But he has chosen a shallow existence... that he still gets away with, and that on some level I envy. I had not seen him in over a year, he looked great (in fact, I was really attracted to him) and after hours of tv and watching old videos he kicked me out because some 20 year old kid was coming over for a bj. And I was hurt. What is that all about? Should I just be glad I never got more entangled? Should I run away? Or should I follow my impulse and crawl into bed and have a good cry?
Wow this is so unlike me. This is why I distance myself from everything.

A Meme
I was tagged by the Love Lemming! (All these 5's remind me of the old 'Friday Five' which I kinda miss...
A lifetime Is usually too short, but sometimes too long.
5 years ago I was getting psyched to go on my whirlwind trip to Atlanta to see a certain boyband, and a fabulous cruise of the Greek Isles.
1 year ago I was blogging about being a guest on a gaming cruise (still waiting for that to happen)
Yesterday "All my troubles seemed so far away..."
Tomorrow I agree with Enviroboi: Margaritas!!!
5 snacks I enjoy Fritos® Scoops and onion dip, chocolate-covered coffee beans, cashews, popcorn, veggies and dip.
5 songs I know the words to, even without the music Okay I don't know all the lyrics, though I know a lot of lyrics to a lot of 80's songs. Go West (Pet Shop Boys/Village People), Being Boring (Pet Shop Boys), I Vow to Thee My Country (Gustav Holst and Cecil Spring-Rice), Hungry Like the Wolf (Duran Duran), Somewhere I Belong (Linkin Park),
5 things I would do with $100,000,000. I'd design and build houses in SF, London and Charlottesville. I'd give most of it to The Ocean Conservancy, Defenders of Wildlife, and a couple of other nature protection groups and some to the Planetary Society. I've give some to the UVa. architecture school. Oh and some to family and friends...
5 locations I'd like to run away to San Francisco, Prague (yeah, Larry! Hot Bel-Ami boys!), London, Zurich, Charlottesville.
5 bad habits I have I'm a terrible housekeeper, biting my nails, complaining, wasting time on the internet, and generally procrastinating.
5 things I like doing Blogging, reading, exercising (and teaching an enthusiastic spin class), curling up in a warm bed on a cold winter night, wasting time on the internet.
5 things I would never wear Drag, a tattoo, a beard, socks with sandals, shorts and dress shoes.
5 TV shows I like Lost, Desperate Housewives, Stargate, Charmed, Degrassi the Next Generation.
5 movies I like A Man for All Seasons, Contact, all the Star Wars, Star Trek: the Even # movies, the Lord of the Rings movies.
5 famous people I'd like to meet (Can they be dead and/of not speak english?) Carl Sagan, Alexander the Great, Bill Clinton, Howard Dean, Anderson Cooper (and not just cause he's hawt!)
5 biggest joys at the moment Joy is relative I guess (what with clinical depression and all), but I enjoy listening to certain NPR programs like This American Life and Says You and Car Talk (they make me laugh out loud on the Metro when I listen to them recorded on my iPod), I like working on my fantasy novel and getting positive feedback, teaching Spin -- for the ego boost, reading other peoples' blogs...
5 favorite toys (currently or of all time?) Now: My iPod, my iMac/Mac Cube (thank you, Steve Jobs), my big-ass tv, my TiVo, and, um... ever guy's favotie toy. In the past it was probably my Major Matt Mason stuff!
5 people to tag...
Tam!
Ken!
Gene!
Joel!
Well, that's four. I dunno if anyone else on my list is likely to do it...

Gay Spin and Splenda®BBQ
I was at this bbq a few weeks ago (where I met -- totally randomly -- two other WSC spin instructors), but also met and hung out with some cool lesbians, one of whom was a chemist (bear with me, I'm getting to a point).
Anyway, she explained how Splenda® works, it's pretty simple really. They altered the sugar molecules somehow and bonded them with chlorine (yes as in bleach) which makes the carbohydrate indigestible. Now, of course, every time I put some Splenda® in my coffee, I think I am getting a little whiff of chlorine. Blech. I mean Bleach. I mean... ew.

Mysterious Skin
I was just reading glowing reviews in the Washington Post about Gregg Araki's new film. Apparently it's really disturbing but good.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is that 3rd Rock kid who was the str8 Mormon in Latter Days; Brady Corbett played the youngest son in the goofy remake of Thunderbirds (Directed by Jonathan Frakes/Ryker from ST:TNG). Different roles for both of them but the Post said they were both very good.

My Sister...
...doesn't blog often enough to suit me. But then I suspect that she has a life! Hi, Tam!
DVD Viewing
last Saturday evening I watched, for the umpteenth time, A Man for All Seasons. Still a great flick. Last week I watched (also for the umpteenth time) Contact. My poor neighbors probably hate me cause I love the sound of the 'machine' and I turn the volume way up on the home theater.

Vin Diesel and the Gay Porn Star
Yum. Sebastian is still looking gorgeous. Vin Diesel and Sebastian Bonnet.
Good thing Sebastian is vers.

Spintastic
I just love substituting at classes at the WSC 1211 Conn Ave club (the one where I work out weekdays because it's 2 blocks from the office, and the one known as the 'gay one' as it is 2 blocks south of Dupont Circle...).
But the spin classes are not mostly gay men (that I can tell), but they are usually nearly full, and with enthusiastic people. And every single time, I have gotten a very enthusiastic reception -- a much needed ego boost after low-attendance classes at the Clarendon club.
My Mix last night:
Too gay? But as they trooped out afterward, several said that the music was "great" and one young woman said "I loved how you put Britney right after Justin!" Someone got it! And once guy said "Finally music for our age." I wonder what the usual instructor plays?

The Solar Sail
I've been following the Planetary Society's launch of the Cosmos I Solar Sail (I'm a member in fact, yes what a nerd), and unfortunately it sounds like something may have gone wrong. Damn Russian-built rockets! Let's keep our fingers crossed, though...

Oh, the irony
I, who claim to like my solitude, find myself suddenly feeling lonely.
Though it's not just a general thing. It's one thing that causes another need then another (somehow I feel like I should be breaking into song, something from a Lerner and Lowe musical).
I went on a kind-of date today. He seemed nice. But now I feel this need to talk about it with some other, understanding gay guy. I want to talk about this guy, and what he said, and how he said it, etc. and get the opinion of a friend, and just get a little support.
I don't have a lot of friends, and even fewer gay friends. And none of them seem to be around. Hence my frustration.
If I had never gone out today, I would not have had this problem. Being alone is easy. Letting your feelings out is hard.
This guy seems nice. But is it really worth all the mess? The mess is starting already. Alone and no mess was easy, but was it better?

Hello
Yeah, posting has been a bit sparse lately. Life has been rough in several ways, most of which I don't feel like discussing right now.
Have you ever looked at the veins on the backs of your hands? pushed the veins around a little? It's kind of... weird.
I think I'll go watch Contact for the umpteenth time.

Hey Dick
From the AP
This from the VP who told a senator to "Go f**k yourself." Nice, hypocrite. And I guess being elected governor five times counts as 'nothing,' you loser Halliburton creep. Drop dead.
Howard Dean is "over the top,'' Vice President Dick Cheney says, calling the Democrats' chairman "not the kind of individual you want to have representing your political party.''
"I've never been able to understand his appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does. He's never won anything, as best I can tell,'' Cheney said in an interview to be aired Monday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes.''
Dean was elected governor of Vermont five times between 1992 and 2000.

Space: Above and Beyond - The rumors are over!
Woo hoo! (Or, should I say, "Hoo-RAH!) Space: Above and Beyond is (apparently) coming to DVD. This was such an awesome show, with great writing, surprisingly good effects, and a cast of very talented (and in the case of the guys) very hot Cast. I in fact already have it on DVD, but they are made from old VCR preview masters: pretty good considering, but if they have remastered it with good sound and clearer picture, I'll be buying it again.
At loose ends
I'm sitting in bed on a Sunday morning, and don't need to go teach my class. Why, you ask? Because I got a sub, thinking that I was going to take the gruelling 3-day 'Foundations' training for Washington Sports (which I should have taken a year ago when I started, but, my boss initially screwed up and signed me up for the wrong part, and wasted a day in my life). Then a couple weeks ago at Kim & Steve's party I met 2 other spin instructors, Orlando and Rick, neither of whom had ever bothered to take Foundations. So I was like, WTF, I won't either! But I can't exactly show up and tell the guy that is subbing for me that I want my class back. So I have already had 2 cups of coffee, watched an ep or so of Simon Schama's A History of Britain, and I can't decide what to do with myself. I'm kind of tempted to go take the Club Strength class that is taught at the same time as my spin class. Would that be weird? I'm feeling kind of lazy and bloated after no excercise yesterday besides some walking (I went to the Pride yesterday with Steven and others. It was kinda fun, though I was tired after standing around in the heat for what seemed like hours. And as usual, going to things like this always leaves me feeling vaguely depressed (more than usual). SteveandBobby are such a cute couple, and just the whole huge gathering of all these gay men for some reason makes me feel like an outsider somehow. Needless to say I won't be going to the whole festival thing downtown today. Too hot.
Anyway, I really want to post another chapter today, plus some other goodies to the Shadow World web site.

Charmed Boys
So, I am way behind on my episodes of Charmed, and finally got to watch the one called Invisible Friend where they summon 'good' grown-up Wyatt from the future. I thought, he's kinda cute (not as cute as Drew Fuller/Chris of course) and he looks kinda familiar. Well, what do you know! He's Wes Ramsey, aka Christian from Latter Days! The hair threw me off. And he looks so tall!

Threat level: Pink!
Thanks to my Sis I took the threat level quiz. Here's my result:

Threat rating: Medium. Your total lack of decent
family values makes you dangerous, but we can
count on some right wing nutter blowing you up
if you become too high profile.
What threat to the Bush administration are you?

Star Wars Geeks
Bored? Crack out that old Phantom Menace DVD disc Two. Check out the fights section where Lucas contradicts himself all over the place and watch Ray Park (Darth Maul, Hottie!), Liam and Ewan (god his normal voice and accent are so sexy) talk about the duels. Then go watch the Duel of the Fates video, and all the TV spots in sequence. Those TV spots are artistry. Trust me.
And wow, Yoda was still a puppet? But I think the puppet Yoda held a certain charm.

This week
This has been the worst. Week. Ever.
I exaggerate, of course, but this has been a horrid week on several fronts. The skylight issue is still hanging over my head (pun intended) and several big jobs have gone south in a big way. Not due to anyone's fault really. Well one was marketing's fault for not noticing that our logo wasn't on any of the 35 promotional signs we did for some big tournament. (The idea of promotional signs is to promote ourselves, after all...)
Why does it always seem like the short weeks are the worst ones?

Reality Hell
After coming home from a good spin class, I watched a TiVo'd episode of the PBS series 'Mystery' where Dom Monaghan is the sidekick of this older woman private investigator, Hetty Wainthrop, I think. It was dated 2003 but he looks so young and darling when he shaves! I must admit that though I have watched several, I was keen on this one because there was supposedly a nude scene of Dom in the shower. Cut for American TV, no doubt...
Anyway, afterward I went to live tv and there was this awful show on NBC where they bring back 80's bands to do their big hit then do a modern song. It was so painful to watch Loverboy and the fat bald lead singer that I switched to WB, which was Brian 'Altarboy' McFadden (former TRL host) hosting a reality show called 'Beauty and the Geek' or something, with nerd paired with beauties. Equally lame and sad all around.
When will this end? Is the Apocalypse nigh?
